The Alkaline Cook Book

Dear friend,

We all know that you are what you eat.

Your next lunch, breakfast or dinner will impact every cell, tissue and organ in your body. Often the reason why many people don't feel well or don't look good is because they don't watch what they eat.

However, there are exceptions to the rule...

You might eat all the right foods but maybe your energy levels are still low, your hair looks dull and lifeless, you catch the colds or flu often, you struggle with your weight, you feel stressed and fatigued on most days of the week, your skin looks tired and saggy.

Why isn't your body positively responding to all those good foods you eat? It seems like all your 'healthy eating' efforts are self-defeating!

Sometimes You Simply Aren't What You Eat!

Types of FiberAt times good food is not necessarily good for you. In fact, the exact opposite could be true. Some food could be making you ill...

For example, you might have an allergic reaction to the common foods like milk, wheat, eggs and yeast without even knowing about it. These food reactions can cause different problems in your body - from fatigue to digestive problems and even headaches.

Some doctors and nutritionists recommend that you should have several eggs a week. You might think that free-range eggs are particularly good for you without realising that you have a reaction to eggs.

Food Allergies vs Food Sensitivities

Many people don't realise that allergies and sensitivities are not the same. An allergy causes an immediate and severe symptoms like rashes, swelling around the mouth, gastric upsets or difficulty breathing.

While allergies are quite easy to detect, sensitivities are not.

The problem with sensitivities is that they cause a response several hours or even days after ingesting the food. If your body is lactose intolerant, for example, you may suffer from headaches, sinus congestion, diarrhoea, wind and stomach cramps several hours or days after drinking a glass of milk.

7 Foods You May Have to do Without

If you suspect you're intolerant to some food, you should find out what it is exactly that causes a reaction then you should eliminate it from your diet.

The most common food allergens are milk, wheat, gluten, eggs, chocolate, soya and citrus. While you don't have to avoid them forever, it might be good for you to avoid them for a period of time.

Apparently World's Peak Performance Coach, Anthony Robbins hasn't touched chocolate in 20 years. Whether he is allergic to it or not, we think you should try to identify those foods that slow your body down.

There is a problem...

'Hidden Allergies' You Don't Know You Have!

What you might not know is that when a food is eaten daily or several times daily, a high blood level of that food is maintained.

Paediatric News, reports: "The length of time between ingestion and symptoms can help to distinguish between the two main types of allergic reactions to food protein: IgE mediated and non-IgE mediated. IgE-mediated reactions can produce signs and symptoms within 20 minutes versus 2 hours to several days for non-IgE reactions." So...

You could be reacting to one or more previous meals of the same food while reacting to other allergenic foods at the same time. Under such "complex" circumstances symptoms might become chronic and almost impossible to detect.

That's why many doctors recommend elimination diets of several weeks where you eliminate and avoid the offending foods.

You should also enrich your diet with a large variety of foods so you're not having too much of one thing. Try keeping a simple journal to track the foods you eat - when it comes to sensible eating depending on your memory alone might not be enough. That's where a journal can be of great help.
