Dear friend, Remember the old "Got Milk?" commercials? 'Super, that's how milk makes you feel' ... 'you can have bones of steel' ... 'milk makes you grow taller' ... 'milk makes you grow faster'. Remember, those? We have seen the milk moustache on popular actors and actresses, sports athletes and even popular entertainers. We were raised to believe that if you want to grow big, strong and healthy you'll get there faster if you drink your milk. If you don't your bones will become brittle and weak. Well, is that true? Do you really need a 'milk moustache' for your bones and teeth to be strong and healthy or is that just a clever marketing ploy? Helpful advice or clever marketing scam? Dr. Akilah El, Ph.D., N.D. is known for saying 'Got Milk? If So, Dump it!' OK, who is right and who is wrong here? According to one website 'protein from milk is absorbed into the blood fully undigested, provoking an immune response. Repeated exposure to these proteins disrupts normal immune functions and may eventually lead to diseases.' The website goes on to say that milk can cause many disease from asthma to diabetes to breast cancer to leukemia to arthritis and even osteoporosis? Osteo... what?! Isn't milk supposed to help your bones grow stronger? Interesting... From sniffles to sneezes to cancer! Apparently, despite its calcium content, the protein milk contains makes the body more acidic. And you probably know that when your body is acidic it leeches alkaline bone minerals and uses it as buffer. Optimum Nutrition comments that most milk products are loaded with antibiotics, pesticide residues, and high levels of growth hormone which have been linked to hormone-related cancers and even food poisoning. The book further reports that early exposure to milk increases the likelihood of developing allergies in babies. Further, it quotes a 12-year study which found that women who drank two or more glasses of milk a day actually had a 45 percent higher risk of hip fractures and a 5 percent of forearm fractures than women who drank less. How do you feel about your milk now? Want that moustache again? But wait, there is more... Apparently countries that have low or no consumption of dairy produce have remarkably low incidences of breast and prostate cancers, and other hormone related cancers. Now you have to draw your own conclusion. However, if you really want to enjoy good optimal health then perhaps thinking twice before reach out for a glass again is a great idea.
